New Shoes & Other Lovely Things

All Things New!

Hi all, Liz here again,  keeping  you all up to date with all new things happening at Forget Me Not right now.

We have just taken delivery of some fabulous new bridal footwear which we know you are going to love. Take a look at our Facebook or Instagram page to get a sneak preview.

Also we are awaiting a new selection of handmade garters which are absolutely stunning.  A perfect gift for your bride to be….or for yourself for that matter!

We are taking delivery very soon of some heart shaped umbrellas….to shade you from the sun or keep you dry in the rain.

And last but not least we have a wonderful little invention coming our way this week! If you are a fan of Dragons Den you will have seen these little beauts already. They are called “Clean Heels” and they are a little device that you simply slip onto your stiletto heel and as well as stopping you from sinking into grass, they also keep your heels clean!! Genius!  Dont know why it hadn’t been thought of before now!

We are always trying to think of new, fresh ideas to help brides on their big day.  As well as stocking up on the usual stuff, we try to think outside the box and come up with quirky little things that you may not always think about.  Lets face it, trying to organise a wedding is hard enough without having to think of all the little bits and bobs you may need on the actual day.  So we try to do that bit for you!  We would also love to hear about any ideas you have too.  You can add your comments at the bottom of this post!

OK Ladies (and Gents), thats about it from me for now.  Im off to enjoy some of this lovely sunshine we are being spoilt with this weekend!

See you soon

wedding dress shopping

TOP TIPS FOR WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING

Hi All….Liz here again with some top tips for wedding dress shopping.

TIME…..Give yourself 6-9 months if possible! With the huge amount of options available, it can take a while to figure out what you really like, and what suits you.  The last thing you want to do is panic and spend all that money on a dress you’re not quite sure about because you are out of time! Remember it takes an average of 16-20 weeks to tailor a dress and 6 months to tailor a custom wedding gown – so make sure you start in plenty of time!

IN THE AM……Book a morning appointment! That way you start and look fresh, the shop staff are attentive, and everything becomes so much more enjoyable. When you get there early, you are more likely to have an assistant who will be feeling creative and enthusiastic.

WEEKDAYS……Dont wait for a Saturday appointment. Make it for a weekday. Take a days holiday from work and make a day of it. You can plan your day around your appointments, have some lunch with your shopping companions and really enjoy the day. You get the full attention of your consultant and avoid the weekend madness!

4 IS A CROWD…...Only bring 2-3 people with you. We know it’s the most important dress you will ever buy and the world and his wife want to come too but its no fun having lots of people giving their opinions while you’re stood in the middle of a shop wearing a wedding gown you are not sure about! You want a small number of friends/family who you can trust to give you an honest opinion about what works and what doesn’t.  From our experience, your mum, sister and best friend are the best options.

KEEP IT SIMPLE……Try on a few dresses but not too many.  Most brides try four to eight gowns before making their final decision. Try to have an open mind.  Dresses may look good on the hanger but not so good on the person and vice versa! Whilst this means you need to try a few dresses on, things will get very confusing if you try too many on! You can easily become overwhelmed and can miss “the one” because you are confusing the issue by trying different styles! Go with your gut feelings, you will know when you have found “the one”.  You will feel amazing, you won’t want to take it off and there may even be a few tears from the onlookers!!

DON’T WAIT…..If you find “the one”, buy it today!! If you wait it could be gone the next time you are shopping. Designers can discontinue a dress at any time and once its gone its gone! And all good intentions to lose weight and then come back in a few months could mean the difference between getting your dream dress and having to settle for second best!

Hope these top tips help.

Happy Shopping!!

See you soon.

Lots of love,

Liz xxx

boutique buy versus budget buy

Boutique buy versus Budget buy?

Hi, Liz here again with a few words on the boutique versus budget buying experience!

With so many options available to buy a wedding dress these days, the opportunity to be made to feel special and really well looked after is often missed out on.

There is something to be said for bridal outlets as they cater for  brides on a budget.  With more expense being laid out on weddings than ever, no one would blame you for trying to save a few pounds when looking for your perfect gown.  Buying on the internet is also a cheaper option when money is tight.

BUT…….when you come into a boutique, the experience you get is a world away from both of these options.  You will be welcomed into a world of privacy and comfort.   And safe in the knowledge that you are with a sales team who know exactly how to help you. They will guide you every step of the way.  From the moment you book your appointment to the moment you walk out of the door with your dress, you will be looked after with the very best customer care.  You may even be offered a glass of the bubbly stuff!

The whole boutique experience is a completely different ball game to outlets and internet sales. You are our main priority and we want you to be happy from day one. We are not just selling a dress, we are selling an experience that you wont find anywhere else.  There is no queuing for fitting rooms.  There is no limit on how many dresses you can try  and furthermore, we dont pack you off with the dress in a bag and shoo you out the door.

First of all your boutique experience will begin with you being given a private appointment which will last up to an hour and a half. You can bring a few friends/family or both with you.  There is no limit to how many dresses you can try on.  So, if you want to try every dress in the shop, you can!  You will be helped to get in and out of each dress.  Accessories can also be tried on when you have narrowed the choice down to 1 or 2 dresses.  When you have found your dream dress, it will be kept until you want to pick it up.  All of your fittings will be done in house and you wont be expected to find your own seamstress for alterations.  Finally, we will even steam your dress just before you pick it up so it is in pristine condition.

This and a whole lot more is the difference between buying boutique and buying budget……

Now all you have to do is decide which experience is for you!!

Thats it from me for now.

See you soon

Cheap is not always cheerful!!

Hi all

Liz here again…..minus the cat who is asleep on my bed right now!

Today I thought I would share some thoughts on buying dresses on the internet and the pitfalls you are more than likely to come across if you do go down that route!

It could be that you have been to a couple of boutiques and tried on a dress or two but there is one particular one that you really like but its a bit out of your budget.  OK,  so you could  borrow a couple of hundred pounds from your great Aunt Marge or you could scrimp a bit on the room decor and have your dream dress from a local retailer!!  Or you could simply go home, fire up your lap top and try and search for a cheaper version of your dream dress from somewhere in the East, maybe China or Japan for less than £300.

Yes, they may have beautiful pictures of the actual dress that you saw today in that shop down on the high street, but is that what you will receive in reality when the post man delivers your dress in six weeks time???

Probably not, is the answer to that question. What you will receive is a poor copy cobbled together in a sweat shop and made from the cheapest materials available.  It will more than likely not even be the colour you ordered.  And will you be able to return this to the seller?  Chances are that you wont, as there will be a no returns policy on the website or no address to send it back to.

So what happens next? After you have spent a week crying on your best friends shoulder, you try to make the best of the situation by taking your “dress” to a seamstress to try to rescue it and make it resemble the one in the picture that you thought you would receive. Unfortunately, the dress is probably too poorly manufactured for even the best seamstress to do anything with or the alterations are going to cost more than you actually paid for your dress in the first place!!  Your only other option now is to go out and start your search over again and hope that you have enough time for a legitimate retailer to order your dream dress in time for your wedding.  Or you may end up buying a dress off the peg and settling for second best because you have already spent a chunk of your dress budget on your internet disaster.

You may think that spending £1000+  on your wedding dress from a local boutique is a lot of money for a dress that you are only going to wear once, but these dresses are made by professional dressmakers who spend hours painstakingly sewing every sequin and bead on by hand, and making sure every part of your dress is perfect.

A few examples of internet copies of wedding dresses are shown here……

So in conclusion, Beware, dont let the lure of cheap imitations ruin your wedding day! It could cost you very dearly indeed!

Lots of Love
